For the second time this year, I will get to watch Supernatural live! Hooray for slow worknights and early shifts.
The episode didn't hold together very well on its own, but in terms of developing the characters and their season-long storylines, it was important. It did make me realize how much more I like the game-centric episodes, although I realize they can't do one of those every week.
I'm trying very hard not to scream on the inside about Matt's father's plot, because the Army? Takes forever to do that sort of thing. I'm a military brat, and you know the whole litany of jokes about bureaucracy and triplicate and never-ending hierarchies? They're not so true in the real world, but in the military they do and forever will exist. So. Getting that off my chest.
Love that Matt can't let himself be angry at his father, even though if anyone's earned it, he has. Love Julie's support of him.
Love love love that when Julie tells her parents how wonderful they are, Taylor's all "Yeah, that's right, we win," while Tami is immediately concerned. He can be so dense sometimes.
Tyra's response to her mother's boyfriend's abuse was amazing, as was her response to Tim's apology. That scene at the beginning when the boyfriend hit her mom was scary intense, and later, when Tim comes up sheepish and curly-haired (and wow, his hair was curly in this episode--what, Tim, pass out at a fourth-grade slumber party again?) their conversation was amazing. I hope they have more interaction, either as boyfriend/girlfriend or as just friends. I love them together.
Adored that little speech about the rodeo to the team: "A little issue has come to my attention, gentlemen: the annual women's booster league rodeo fundraiser and fair. Shut up. Shut up." Hee!
And something I haven't remembered in a few episodes: Jason is such a good person. He's such a good person. He's going through hell, and the lawsuit is just going to put him through more hell, but he's doing it because his parents need him to and he understands that. But when he says to Taylor, "you'll always be my coach," he means it with his whole heart.
Hmm... Other miscellany. Waverly/Smash annoys me, probably because I don't see why either of them is into the other. They really don't have anything in common. And Smash's little speech at the end didn't mention anything new, either, didn't enlighten me. It was just a little too "Hey, look, here's a recap of the character!" for me. Speaking of which, I'd have liked to see some steroids continuity, but I'm not too upset about that.
Was sort of hoping for some follow-up on the Tim & Landry (omg otp for serious), but I can wait for that one.
And of course Buddy's speech: "Thank you, Lord, for letting Buckley win. I know that it was nothing short of a miracle, and I thank you for that miracle. I know you truly are an all-powerful god to let such a crap team win." Yes, Buddy, God exists for Dillon.
