Two random thoughts:

1. The more I think/read about it, the more I want to join the Peace Corps after I graduate.

2. The BBC's Robin Hood is so campy it's amazing.

3. I lied. I have three thoughts. The third one is that I am interested to see what happens with this Russian spy business.

re: 2, it is the campiest thing I've seen in a long while. The anachronisms especially crack me up. It's like a blown-up, British version of Xena and Hercules.

Isn't it amazing, though? I mean, come on, there's an episode where Robin FIGHTS HOLDING A BABY.

Dude.

I sort of love it beyond all reason.

My favorite is the part where Marion comes down to meet whatshisname wearing -

Wait for it -

A robe.

For the love of... Love beyond all reason is about right.

Yes! The robe! The scene with the robe was amazing. Almost as bad as the scenes in which she wears pants, even. It's just so beautifully terrible.

And also Robin/Much is basically not even subtext at this point.

I WANT TO SEE ROBIN HOOD! ANd okay, yes, yes I know it's probably the worst bit of crap ever. But it couldn't possibly hurt me anymore than Dr. Who does, and on the plus side of that no stupid aliens (that I know of) and Richard Armitage.

I WANT TO SEE IT SO BAD.

*growls*

Oh man, Richard Armitage. See, I didn't even know he was in it and then my roommate gave me the first episode to watch, I sat down, and there he was.

I may or may not have paused it to bounce around a little.

And believe me, it will not hurt worse than Dr. Who. Well, it might. But it will hurt in different ways. And you are a strong person.

Oh, Richard Armitage. I just saw North and South a couple of weeks ago, and am like gaga over him. And then I had the (mis?)fortune of finding where I could watch him reading bedtime stories on CBeebies online...I'm a lost cause, I fear.

And I have tried SO HARD to like Dr. Who, I swear. I've started watching at least three episodes...and for some reason campy sci-fi is something I just can't handle. I like the sci to be more important than the fi when watching sci-fi, and Dr. Who is just..so...cheesy? I don't know. I still haven't completed an episode.

And hey, I watch Dawson's Creek AND 21 Jump Street, I'm okay with stupid and/or cheesy shows, or shows that stretch the limits of your imagination with believability...so long as there isn't an alien involved. ;)

Now, to find a way to get me hands on an episode ;)

He has the most beautiful voice, seriously. He's on my list of people I want to talk to just so I can zone out and listen to the cadence of his speech.

I never quite got into Dr. Who, either. My sister absolutely loves it and I have a soft spot in my heart for the first few Doctors, but it doesn't have that elusive click factor. I think British TV is a little less...I dunno. Elaborate? Except that isn't really it. It concentrates a little less on producing a certain aesthetic feel for its shows; the sets often feel very much like sets. It's hard for me to get past the surface of what's going on and lose myself in the characters when I have constant reminders that I'm watching something make-believe.

As for getting your hands on an episode, well, this is what the internet is for. ;)

Lord, does he ever. It's...I don't even know what the word is, it's very smooth and deep and just pleasant. It's one of those that could just lull you into a stupor without much effort.

I don't really know what it is about Dr. Who. It feels like it would be a show I could get into...but there's really so much HISTORY behind it. I feel like I'm dropping in on the middle of something, and I hate that. A lot. And it's just...sci-fi. Even BSG gets a bit out there for my taste, and it's the most grounded sci-fi of all time, so far as I'm concerned. Of course, BSG is another show I fail to connect with, no matter how much I want to.

And...I KNOW! But I have this AMAZING guilt complex about downloading shows. It's awful. But...surely...one episode would do no harm? (though I hear it takes until about episode 6 to hit it's "stride" meaning I'd have to get to the stride ;))
