To summarize it quickly: I like my roommate, I like or can tolerate my neighbors, the food only sucks at certain times of day and on certain days of the week, the little minifridge/microwave thing rocks, I have a sunflower in a vase by the window where it makes me happy all day long.
It's all about the little things, like the hook I stuck on the wall just inside my closet so I can hang my keys, or the Chinese character decals that spell "Joy" on the little flat piece of bookcase that overhangs my desk. Like the string of pink lights my roommate, S, and I taped up around our window, the Incubus poster on the ceiling, the pink Target messageboard.
And because it deserves its own paragraph: I adore my little 4-cup programmable Mr. Coffee. I didn't actually know a coffee machine could be cute until I saw this one at the very end of an aisle in Target. It captured my heart. I'm sure all future boyfriends will be jealous of it. But what can I say? It's The One. When my daughter goes off to college, she will bear with her this legacy: the wonder of a 4-cup coffee machine that one can program to have coffee ready immediately upon one's awakening.
I may be slightly obsessed with coffee.
My nextdoor neighbor C, her boyfriend B, and I went out to a wonderful night of UW bands and free pizza on Friday, which was a great way to spend my first night out on the town. There's so much going on all the time, and I can't wait to meet more people when class reconvenes on Tuesday. Until then, it's Shakespeare and African folktales, note-taking and grocery-shopping. Oh, and browsing the thrift store for a chair.
God, I love college.
