In Which Carmen Posts Aimlessly
Jun. 16th, 2005 06:05 pmI like the idea behind this whole post-tagging thing, but does anyone else think it's rather unsightly to have those links at the end of your posts? I don't know where else I'd put them--maybe underneath the subject or in the sidebar somehow, for those styles that would support it. As small a quibble as this is, I think I'll stick to keeping well-organized memories for the posts I don't want to forget and for things people might want to see, like icons and fic. It's just as simple, really.
We (the NSO-sponsored Youth Orchestra) had an American Symphony Orchestra League gig this morning at the Washington Hilton. It was awful. As usual, no one thought to provide seats for the percussion, so we had to stand through interminable speeches by what seemed like everyone ever interested in orchestral music from the Stone Age on forward. We played a suite from Dreamkeepers by David Carlson first, a piece that is rarely played and that I enjoyed. Then, after aforementioned yammering, we played the third and fourth movements of Tchaikovsky's Fourth...except not. They made us stop after the third movement so they could get more pontification in. I wanted to scream--you can't split those two movements up like that. The beginning of the fourth movement is supposed to be this beautiful polyphonic surprise after the little joking dance of the third, and if you split it off from the rest of the symphony, it ruins it. Gah.
Other than that, I'm sort of playing around with some BSG fic, none of which has taken any sort of definitive shape. I'll probably write one or two of my ideas, though--this whole no-school thing is going to kill me. I'm so bored.
