I was nominated to join a Youth Orchestra Fellows program with the National Symphony Orchestra, which basically means I'm going to be practicing with the NSO for a few insanely long blocks of time and then performing with the orchestra on the 22nd. We had our first rehearsal today, and I played the triangle part on the Tchaikovsky symphony. It was an incredible amount of fun.

I get to sit out the Debussy, which is fine with me, because I don't really want to play it anyway. I'm covering suspended cymbals, glockenspiel, and vibraphone on a more modern piece by a man whose name I forget.

There was a lot of sitting, and a lot of running around, and a lot of bumping into music stands and dodging around gong racks and snickering at the stupider winds. But mostly, there was a joy that I've only ever felt while playing orchestra music.

Nah, the NSO's not that special. I mean, it's good, but it's no Chicago Symphony.

Keep playing that violin and you'll definitely get there. :)
