Randomness
Mar. 17th, 2004 06:07 pmNow that's both random and crazy. I can't figure out whether I should be honored to be portrayed by Orlando Bloom (I mean, he's a guy and I'm a girl, so wouldn't that be slightly odd?) And Will Smith as my love interest? I think I'll quietly sneak out of the country now...
In other news, we're moving the rest of our household goods in today, which means that I get to unpack tens of boxes of my books. For this I honestly can't wait. I'm so excited about the whole thing - some of these are books I haven't seen in six months. I'm such a nerd, but they're my surrogate family sometimes. I don't care what people say. Books are infinitely superior to television when it comes to entertainment value. And outside of that personal reason to think books are better than any other source of amusement, I've compiled a practical list of why books are more useful than televisions:
1. You know that wobbly table? Put a book under the shortest leg, adjusting the thickness by opening the book and changing the number of pages between the table leg and the floor. Problem solved.
2. Cold and alone? All you need is a match and a few books, and you'll have a blazing fire in no time. Just try that with a TV.
3. Are you being attacked by a vicious animal? Just throw your latest reading material at it - as long as you keep your book close at hand, this is highly effective. Imagine trying to lug a TV around to fight off the neighbor's dog.
4. Having trouble with invasive bugs? Take an unwanted book and bring it in a sharp downward slap on top of the offending insect. (Note: This method of insect eradication also requires the use of tissues, paper towels, or other cleanup materials.)
5. Difficulties reaching the upper cabinets? Just stack a few books on the floor, step up, and you have the dishes at your fingertips. Recommended: War and Peace, Tolkien's appendices to Lord of the Rings, Walter Jon Williams's Destiny's Way, and any other thick book with a durable cover. It helps if you don't really care about the book - if you are the sort of person who prefers not to have mud on the jackets of worthwhile books, then Destiny's Way is the book for you to use.
6. Are thieves making the storage of your valuables a risky affair? Just find a hardcover book you don't particularly care for, cut the center out of the pages, and store your heirloom necklaces in the resulting box.
