Ever since the mass Mod demotions over at the JC, members of the community have discussed the events, set up alternate boards, and generally worried about the status of the situation. Not surprising, considering we knew something was simmering at Comms for a few days before it erupted into this. Still, the situation's not quite as horrible as some people make it out to be. Even if they aren't mods any more, the former mods are still with the JC, and the vast majority of the people who post there are not really concerned about the fate of the whole forums. We're huge, after all - I've heard we're the fifth largest posting forum on the 'Net - and it would take a lot more than the loss of some of our Mods to shut the whole thing down.

That said, what happened was not right. Obviously, I don't know the details, but I do know that the outcome was both detrimental to the community and insulting to many people. The fact that the demoted Mods were at first refused VIP status, only to be granted it a day later was inexcusable - VIP status is the least the owners of the site can do to lessen the impact of the demotions.

I'm optimistic the situation will blow over given time and patience. There's something fundamental about the JC that won't allow something like this to defeat it.

I finished the Fan Fiction Newsletter at 3 am yesterday and posted it before rolling out of my computer chair and into bed. It looks good, if I do say so myself. Of course, a good half of how good it looks is a credit to the contributors. I can't wait until the next newsletter comes out - I had so much fun with this one.

In Real World News, I started Spring Training today with my brother - we played catch in a nearby field and groaned about how inaccurate we had become over the winter. I hate that about baseball. When you stop playing, even for a little while, you lose some of the precision with which you played before. And then you have to work twice as hard as you did over the course of last season just to get back to where you were. It's a cruel cycle.
