Dude, the 4 X 200 freestyle relay? Coolest. Race. Ever.

*sticks tongue out at Aussie friends*

*hugs Aussie friends*

*bows to The Mightiness that is Ian Thorpe* (I mean, seriously, this guy made up almost 1.5 seconds in 200 meters against one of the fastest swimmers in the world)

*gloats*

And the Italians came in third! I heart the Italians; Italy's sort of my adopted country. So all in all, I was exceedingly happy with the outcome of the race.

You know what's ironic about the Olympics? The promise of watching the most physically conditioned people in the world reduces me to a TV vegetable. So while they're enduring the most competitive sports in the world, I'm not even keeping up my regular exercise schedule.

Items Discovered in Boxes of My Grandmother's Things – Part Two

Buffy's Granddaughter, Far Future

On the second day, Mom and I make our way through the next few years' worth of photo albums. Grandma's smiling in all of these, and often wearing a black leather coat. The person who took the photos had eyes for nothing but Grandma – no matter the location, the background is never featured.

Most of the pictures were taken at night, anyway.

And then suddenly Grandma's frowning again, the little crease back between her eyebrows. In one picture, her eyes are red-rimmed with grief, and she clutches the weathered black coat around her like a shield.

No one comforts her.

It was really awesome watching a race in which we didn't really know who was going to win. And I agree - two more meters and Thorpe probably would've brought it home.

Which makes it lucky that the pool doesn't have two more meters, eh? ;)
