Beautiful cloudy days
Jun. 4th, 2004 04:38 pmI stayed home from school today, intending to get some writing done, but I couldn't stay in one place long enough to get coherent thoughts onto paper. I did, however, play around with a little icon-animator, with some interesting results:

Not my best work, but certainly far from my worst. And it still makes me giggle occasionally, when it's not making me remember all the cursing I went through to make it come out right.
My summer's even more up in the air now than it was a few days ago. I have no idea what I'm going to do apart from Youth Orchestra in the evenings, all-night writing sessions and chats, and working out. Maybe I'll get a job at a local camp - that's still an option, really - or maybe I'll volunteer at a shelter. Money would be good, but it's not necessary. I can get by without it. I've learned, by living on the campus of George Washington University, the basics of Life Without Cash:
1. Take free samples, no matter what they are. You never know when you might need them or whether you might be able to sell them. (Example: small teddy bears.) If someone offers you something you need, like a coffee, take it, walk around the block, and come back and take another.
2. Follow around after various political campaigns. They tend to hand out fruit and matches.
3. Become good friends with the people who work at the small delis and restaurants around the school. The price of a muffin has gone down several cents for me since I started talking baseball with the deli owner.
4. Be shameless. If someone puts out a bowl of cookies, take a handful.
5. Know which restaurants are likely to distribute their food for free. Taco Bell, for example, often offers free quesadillas right at the beginning of the GW lunch period.
6. All else failing, starve.
I can do this college thing. I'm already halfway there.
