See, I love Ellen. (In case you hadn't quite figured that out yet.) And to me, what she told Jo did make sense, maybe not canonically in the precise way I presented here, but for at least some of the same reasons. She wants Jo to be safe, to grow up and have a normal life, and she can't do that with a hunter.
