I went to the dress rehearsal for the 4th of July celebration down at the Mall today. It was fun, and we got to watch the National Symphony Orchestra perform along with Vince Gill, Clay Aiken, and (an obviously recorded) Ray Charles. By the time it was over, however, my legs had fallen completely asleep and my stomach was complaining noisily that it hadn't had any sustenance since early in the morning. So I went to Uno's for dinner and had a great Chicken Fajita pizza. My mouth is still watering.

Other than that, unremarkable day. Wrote some poetry, worked on my SW fanfic, painted a little on a canvas of two cheetahs that I've been meaning to finish up for a long time. Went to drop of dry cleaning only to realize that I was $0.28 short of the amount of money I had to pay, which resulted in much embarrassment as I sprinted back home to pick up the requisite amount. You'd think that after nine months of my patronage, the dry cleaners could wait until I picked up my clothes to receive the last tiny bit of their payment.

Anya tells me that we should do more as a couple. She suggests planning our finances; I suggest watching football. Our compromise: tennis.

Tennis courts are a lot bigger than they look on TV. If you stand in the middle of one side, you'll get maybe a quarter of the shots that come over the net.

Anya beats me almost every time. I don't mind. She's naturally good at this sort of thing.

"Come on, hit me another," I yell. "This time I'm going to win."

And I realize I'm grinning for the first time in what feels like forever.
