I had a bloody marvelous day
May. 17th, 2004 08:02 pmYou know you've been reading too much Spike fic when...
1. You start smelling traces of tobacco, leather, and alcohol on everything.
2. You think everyone with blonde hair must dye it.
3. You immediately think Dawn whenever anyone says "bit," "nibble," or "Happy Meal."
4. You immediately think Spike when you hear the word "spike." (And around my volleyball gang, that word pops up regularly.)
5. Your first reaction to any minor annoyance is to mutter "Bloody wanker" and storm off.
And it's true. I've been reading way too much Spike fic, trying to get into his head for a story I've been planning for ages. I've also been watching the Buffy episodes I can get my hands on, and referring back to every transcript I can think to reference. He's so much fun to write, but I'm always afraid I'll make the mistakes so many other people have made and overwrite him, or make him completely good or evil, or just have Dawn and Buffy torture him to the point of breakage. He's too round a character for that to happen to him.
In other, closer-to-real-life news, Supernova, a fan fiction board geared toward science fiction and fantasy, opened today and already has several writers posting their work. So go, ye fanficcers, and post your writing and have us read it, for we are fresh out of good material to enjoy.
Oh, and if you haven't read it already, pick up a copy of John Steinbeck's In Dubious Battle. Excellent way to spend an afternoon.
