I tried to incorporate some of the ideas of good and evil that come through in a lot of mythology--most of the time, they both seem rather petty and unable to see shades of grey. (I have to admit, the nebula was one of the original reasons I wrote the story, though it got a much smaller part than I had conceived for it. I want to write, like, a nebula convention. Where they all get together and compare notes. And have an open bar!)
